2 Fan-Fucking-Tastic Apps

Four types of content sum up our digital lives: Text, music, images, and video. How our devices let us interact with those four things largely determines how we feel about our device and its software. Those four types of content to be:

  • Explored
  • Discovered
  • Saved
  • Organized
  • Shared & Communicated

That’s what these apps are all about. If you want to enjoy your device, consider downloading:

Photoful

If you download Photoful (for iPhone), within hours you will have dragged the default photos app to some far, far away folder. Photoful is so quickly, intuitive, and cleanly designed that you’d think Apple had designed it. In fact, Apple has decided to model the new iOS7 photos app after Photoful. They didn’t announce this but if you look at the demo of their new app (coming this fall) and Photoful, it is pretty apparent.

Photoful automatically breaks up your photos by day, so you can easily sort through your camera roll. It even adds an automatic geographical location:

iOS7 might be ripping off Photoful, but Photoful ripped off Instagram for these really cool features:

  • Swipe left to delete
  • Add effects right in the app
  • Swipe right to share

Pinch/tap in and out of your pictures. When you’ve zoomed into a single picture you can scroll up and down with the flick of a finger. But not one photo at a time… it’s more like an infinite scroll. It’s awesome.

The grand finale: It automatically syncs with your camera roll. So all you have to do is download it and open it and, boom, there are all your photos, nicely organized.

What are you waiting for? Get on it… seriously… you should go download it… I’ll wait.

Songza

Songza does the same thing Pandora does, but it makes Pandora look like the 8-track of internet radio. I was so sick of typing in different artists into Pandora and hearing the same damn thing. I felt like Pandora was only aware of 5 or 6 artists within each genre. I never ended up finding any new, awesome music. So I tried Songza:

Songza is all about playing very, very specific genres. These almost never overlap. You’ll come across tons of new tunes and you’ll find some really cool new music. Here’s how it works:

  • It recognizes what day and what time it is
  • It suggests six different activities such as (working, working out, cleaning, cooking, driving, etc). You pick one
  • Then it gives you five “Songza genres” fit for that mood & you pick one (such as Swanky Hotel Grooves, ’60s Bachelor Pad, Vintage Southern Cool, etc)
  • You then choose one of three sub-genres

Now you’ve got a really cool channel. Here’s how that process looks:

So now you know. There’s no excuse to not be listening to really awesome music.
