The vast majority of those people who have heard of Mackelmore know him by his song “Thrift Shop” but he isn’t just another rap artist. He’s got a lot to say and a lot of it is worth hearing.

  • “Otherside”, his video on battling drug addiction, the damage of the addiction, and the dreams forfeited
  • Starting Over” is about fighting through drug addiction relapse
  • Same Love“, his video on gay rights
  • 10,000 hours” is based on the 10,000 rule of success pioneered by Malcolm Gladwell, a journalist for the New Yorker

If you haven’t listened to these songs yet, I think you should. The last lines of Otherside:

“Until your stuck,
Lookin’ in the mirror like I can’t believe what I’ve become
Swore I was goin’ to be someone
And growing up everyone always does
We sell our dreams and our potential
To escape through that buzz
Just keep me up, keep me up
Hollywood here we come”
